Electricians covering Glasgow

We cover Glasgow from our base in Ravenscraig, Motherwell. The East End is closest to us, so we are often in Baillieston, Tollcross and Shettleston. We also take on work further into the city.

We do rewires, fuse board upgrades, EICRs, fault finding and EV chargers for homeowners, landlords and businesses. Every job is tested and certified to BS 7671 and we always leave the place spotless.

We are not based in Glasgow. We drive in from Ravenscraig in Motherwell, using the M74 and M8. The East End and the south east of the city are the easiest for us to reach.

Tenements, garden suburbs and newer flats

Glasgow is a city of tenements. Glasgow City Council counts over 77,000 homes built before 1919. That is about a quarter of all the homes in the city. Around 70,000 of them are tenement flats. Many have been rewired once already, but some still have old cables, old fuse boards and too few sockets. A tenement flat also has shared parts, like the close and stair lights, which need care when we work.

Between the wars the city built new schemes on its edges. In the East End, Sandyhills got a garden suburb in the early 1930s. Lilybank opened in 1933 to rehouse families from the old slums. These semis and cottage flats are now around 90 years old. Many have had new kitchens and extensions added over the years, with wiring added bit by bit. A full test shows what is safe and what is not.

There are also lots of rented flats in Glasgow. Under the Scottish Repairing Standard, a private landlord needs an EICR at least every five years. Since February 2022 every Scottish home also needs linked smoke and heat alarms. Both are a big part of our work in the city.
